Firmware 5.0 / 3.0 Update — Studio & Pro Live! Premier/V2 Next Week

Hey All,

Update on the Firmware 5.0 (Scroll) and Firmware 3.0 (V2) rollout:

Current status:

  • Studio — Live now!

  • Pro — Live now!

  • Premier — Expected Tuesday 5 PM EST (or earlier)

  • V2 — Expected Tuesday 5 PM EST (or earlier)

We want to do a more ‘controlled’ roll out on V5 firmware as it includes a brand new server and integrations. To gather the correct data, we decided to roll out the V5.0 release to all STUDIO and PRO units.

The labor day weekend  should give us enough data and additional testing to confidently release the firmware for the PREMIER and V2 units.

We expect to release the update to all units after Labor Day, likely Tuesday (09/08)

Studio and Pro users can access the update now by restarting your device and keeping an eye out for “FW5.0” after setup on the MAC address screen.

You may have noticed the update screen has changed. This was an easter egg we put in in the previous firmware release. It now has a progress bar and lets you know if the update was successful.

What’s included

True Continuous Scroll
Scrolls now run continuously without the black gap between cycles, giving them a more traditional ticker-style presentation.

Win Animations
Team win animations are now included for supported sports.

Faster Sports Updates
As of 8/22, we increased the frequency of our Professional & College league data queries by approximately 2x to bring this as close to live as possible.

Sports Schedules (New App)
Upcoming game schedules are now available across supported sports leagues.

Huge shoutout to GDN user name 'oldskoolgamer; for making a Gameday app for the sports leagues in GDN. We were able to make some enhancements to access glance data and content and bring this across multiple sports leagues. Here see your team’s next game data, past couple games, and injury report. We made this available under the 'sports section' , you should see the author being oldskoolgamer, instead of GLANCE.

Important note for Premier and V2 users

Because Premier and V2 firmware is not live yet, GDN apps will not currently display on those devices.

You may be able to see and select the apps inside the GLANCE app, but they will not run on Premier or V2 until the corresponding firmware update is released.

This does not affect Studio or Pro, which are live now.

We originally intended to release everything together, but given the size of this update and the additional resource requirements introduced by GDN, we’re taking a more controlled rollout approach.

Assuming weekend testing goes as expected, Premier and V2 should follow around Tuesday.

We appreciate everyone’s patience. This is a significant firmware release for the platform, and we want to make sure each device receives a stable build.

Reporting Bugs

We completely rewrote the scroll engine (this engine was written 3+ years ago) to allow for the continuous scroll. We stress tested the scroll in every way we knew how too, but there may be issues. By all means, please report any bugs you may find with the firmware and GDN. This is a massive update, so while we hope things go smoothly, there may be some hiccups.

As always, the GLANCE team is on 100% standby to address any issues reported by our users.

Final Thoughts

This is months and months of super hard work from everyone at the team.

We have even a bigger update for the SCROLL coming out by November, (multi-sync scroll and then community based votes for quality of life enhancements).

I will be posting about the V6 update later next week once we finalize the V5/V3 firmware for the premier and V2.

Note: The V1 classic will continue to get every update the V2 gets. Just at a staggered rate. We are looking to release flight tracking and Weather Radar for the classic by end of sept. The Classic will get a subset GDN by the end of the year.
